Star Wars! It is one of, if not the most famous movie series ever made, and while not all the movies are the best, they are still a lot of fun. However there is one problem: it follows the Skywalker Saga and everything centered around it, which can become a little repetitive and boring, especially with 9 movies. So the producers decided to take a step in a new direction and made The Mandalorian.
The Mandalorian is a Disney+ Original TV show that was first released in November 2019, with season 2 being released in November 2020.
I will not get into too much detail, but the show is such a blast to watch! There are a bunch of comedic scenes but also a lot of action scenes to complement the series. The special effects look breathtaking and they even used some practical effects that look fantastic. The score was made by Ludwig Goransson and is superb, I highly recommend listening to it just once as it is very high quality.
But some of you might be asking: ‘Ok, the effects are good, the music is great, but what about the story? And what if I am not a Star Wars fan or I haven’t seen any of the movies?’
To answer to the first question is: the story is pretty good, not the most sophisticated thing ever but it is consistent, although it can seem formulaic to some, especially in the early episodes. It follows the story of Din Djarin, a Mandalorian (people like Boba Fett and Jango Fett) who at first does not care much about his bounties, but after finding a certain someone I think you all know about, he starts to change bit by bit, until becoming devoted to protecting Grogu, or Baby Yoda for those that forgot/did not know his name.
As for the part of not being a fan of Star Wars or not having seen the movies, you actually do not have to watch any Star Wars content before this show. You can watch it without prior knowledge of the universe it takes place in, as it is self-contained and does not have that much impact in the grand scheme of the Star Wars story. There are some Easter eggs or some name drops that a casual fan or newcomer to the series may/will miss, but people that have watched the movies or the other TV shows will appreciate a lot.
In conclusion, The Mandalorian is a really good show and I highly recommend it not only to Star Wars fans, but to everybody I know. I hope that you give this series a chance as it is very much worth your time.
