FROM THE HISTORY OF THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY HIGH SCHOOL, PIATRA-NEAMT
Founding a new all-round education
high school which could be at the same level with the existing ones, high schools
with long tradition, like “Petru Rares”, was obviously an important
event in the cultural sight of Piatra-Neamt. Therefore, by the order Nr. 5953
from 25th July 1968 the foundation of “Nr. 3 High school” Piatra-Neamt
was approved. The new education centre was matching the momentary necessities
of the town.
Between 1968 and 1970 the high school worked in a temporary centre at the elementary
school “Elena Cuza” from Piatra-Neamt.
The first principal was the biology teacher, Dragan Aspazia.
The new centre for Piatra-Neamt “Nr. 3 High school” would be given
in use on 1st September 1970, on the actual location.
If in the 1968-1969 school year, in the high school functioned 4 classes with
163 students, in 1970 the high school was working with 12 classrooms and 393
students:
I year: 4 classrooms – 145 students;
II year: 4 classrooms – 141 students;
III year: 4 classrooms – 126 students.
There were 24 classrooms, two labs (physics, chemistry) and two workshops (of
tailoring and wearing).
The high school was initially conceireed for a medium scholar population, but
the students and parents interest for this high school grew, here the best
teacher being hired.
The first teachers who taught here were: Maria Dragoi, Valeria Stanescu, Antoaneta
Stoica, Camelia Focsaneanu, Magda Negrea – French; Etto Geldfeld, Georgeta
Ricinschi, Bogdan Chiritescu – Russian; Lucretia Popa, George Ciocan,
Luiza Palamaru – Mathematics; Elena Udreanu – Chemistry; Vladimir
Humeni, Rodica Ciocan, Ioan Besoiu – Physics; Vasile Iacob, Finareta
Vârlan – History; Viorica vasiliu – Geography; Viorica Heel,
Petru Gavriliu – Sports.
Starting with 1973, the high school changes its title into the Piatra-Neamt “Energetic
Industrial High school” being under the supervision of I.E. Bistrita
and the Minister of Electrical Power. At that moment the high school was functioning
with 14 classrooms and 471 students. The material base for the technico-practical
training of the students, was increasing, with the foundation of a locksmith’s
shop.
This unit with industrial and energetic profile would regarded with great interest
by students and parents, children being prepared into profiles and professions
very appreciated at that moment: power stations, transmitters and lightning
mains electricians, cars and hydroelectric equipment mechanical engineer.
As a consequence of the increases, an important number of teachers and engineers
being taken from the university launches, teachers who accomplished a great
teaching career here, giving a high reputation and stability to the high school.
The changes of the name of this high school continued, because in 1974 the
high school changes its title into “Electrotehnic High school” being
under the supervision of Bucharest Hydroelectric Constructions Corporation,
now functioning 23 classrooms with 824 students. The school had important endowments
for that period. Thus, with the employers and Minister of Electrical Power
help, four more laboratories were being equipped: two locksmith’s shops,
one welding and an electric shop.
In 1975 a modern contain and in 1976 a boarding school were be given, in use,
where were students arrived from different areas of the county or even from
Moldova were received, the high school being the only one with this profile
from Moldova.
1976 marks the high school transformation into “Nr. 1 Industrial High
school” having three technological training profiles: electrotechnics,
mechanics, hydro constructions. Also the scholar population suffered a great
increase, now being 27 classrooms with 980 students.
In 1977 the laboratory building had been given in use being equipped with modern
technology (lathes, welding machines, measure and control machines). There
now were 5 work shops: two locksmith’s shops, one welding shop, one electrotechnics
shop and one machines-tools.
Students were benefiting from very good application training conditions, being
distributed for the performing of this on well-known hydroelectric sites of
the country: Cernavoda, Navodari, Sociu – Buzau etc.
In 1978 a sports hall is added to the high school.
Despite the difficulties this high school met, it evolved year by year thanks
to the valuable existing didactic staff, which had been improving constantly
and became a role model for the students and the residents of the town. There
has been a loyal and permanent competition between teachers, to be connected
with all the novelties from the didactic activity. In this period, place a
succession of experience exchanges took place between teachers from all the
country. The activities took place in our high school lent also in other high
school like: Sibiu, Iasi, Onesti etc.
The manuals changes determined experience exchanges, discussions, open lessons.
In this way, the mathematics department carried a succession of activities:
debates, methodical transforming of some chapters, open lessons required by
the change of the geometry books. At these debates took part important names
from well-known high school: Galati “V. Alecsandri” High school,
Buzau “M. Eminescu” High school, Constanta etc.
The main concern of the teaching staff was the efforts of improving for obtaining
II and I teaching degrees with high scores, attending the improved classes
in the methodical boards.
The high school teaching staff was organized in strong and prestigious departments.
- Romanian class: Stanescu Valeria, Cocan Rodica, Zaharescu Radu, Bunghez Coralia,
Sturza Aurelia;

The high school fully deserves its “number one” name because, for
two decades, here young men were properly trained who found their productive
or who attended university courses. Over 90% of electro profile graduates attended
courses in the higher education, being now doctors, university specialists,
successful business men, executives and firm managers.
The high school was a place of competence and professional offering for everybody:
students, teachers, engineers and foremen, united in an ideal of kindness and
of life preparation, despite of the tumultuous age we all crossed. So, we triumphed
easier: the autumn agricultural works with daily commutation or permanent camps,
the clearing of the town’s green spaces. The students of our high school
brought themselves a major contribution to the medicinal plants, waste and
paper gathering.
Many trips and wonderings for students were organized and monthly, on Saturday,
at the school’s refectory, cultural-fun evenings were organized.
On the artistic-cultural level, many activities were developed, in which many
students and teachers were involved as instructors: theatre, artistic brigades,
literally circles, literary-musical stagings, coral groups, folk dance groups,
vocal and instrumental soloists, reciters.
Many of these were awarded in different stages of county, intercounty and national
competitions, our high school being placed in a permanent contest with the
best high schools of the county. In all these years the folk dance group was
one of the best quoted at county and city level.
On the first 3 places at county level, there were the artistic brigade, the
vocal soloists and the reciters.
Beyond office activity, the teachers participated at extraschool actions such
as the population review, scientific informing activities developed in the
factory clubs, in the women organizations, essays sessions and scientific communications.
From the student groups with technic scientific and artistic character: the
Romanian club and the literary artistic club, prof. Tifui Vasile si Rosu Elena;
the biology club, Marculescu Silvia; the electronics club, eng. Mangâr
Puiu; electrotechnics club, eng. Chelaru Mihai and eng. Anton Antoaneta; chemistry
club, prof. Guzgan Tudorita, sport contests under the aegis of the UTC and
of the Daciada.
On sport line, our high school was placed in top of the handball, cross, table
tennis, basket-ball and touristic orientation classification for girls and
as well as boys. We are round that year after year our high school was the
nursery of the county and national performance handball. So the “Fibrex
Nylon” Savinesti team had been a long time formed by our exstudents.
The boys handball team obtained gold medals in 1984, 1985, 1986 in the MEE
championship and III rd national place in the Daciada.
Heel Astrid was national champion at rhythmic gymnastics in 1989 and 1990,
obtaining in 1990 the sport master title at this discipline. The handball teams
were trained by Mrs. Hell Viorica.
Many of the results and of the bold and valuable creations of the students
are reflected in the local newspapers or through the problems published in
special subject magazines.
The results obtained by students and by their mentors at the school Olympiads
and trade contests are worthy of being mentioned. We illustrate here some of
then: Scutaru Maria – Romanian IInd award, county phase 1976, prof. Stanescu
Valeria; Serpe Dumitru – physics IInd award, county phase and mention
at national phase, 1977, prof. Ciocan Rodica; Ciuperca Petrisor – physics
IInd award, county phase and IIIrd award at national phase, 1985; Paledu Nelu – Romanian
language and literature, IInd award at county phase, mention at national phase,
1986; Murariu Tabita – biology Ist award at county phase, mention at
national phase 1986, prof. Marculescu S; Popa Otilia – biology IInd award
at county phase, 1986; Popa Elena – Romanian language and literature
IInd award, 1987, prof. Cocan Rodica; Vasile Gheorghe – philosophy IInd
award, county phase 1989.
Our high school teams obtained Ist place and honour diploma in the trade contest
in 1978, 1980, 1986, 1988; IInd place in 1983, 1987.
An agreeable and instructive place is the High school library, where Mrs. Tifui
Florica has been working since 1977, through offering and through her competence,
the book stock has increased reaching at 25641 volumes. The book offer is very
varied, from the art area to the classic and modern science, informaties, entertainment,
universal literature and art albums area. In a relative limited space, are
displayed albums, editorial noverties, autographs, advertising panels. The
1970-1989 years the mates lined happy moments of reverie in the “High
school library” contest the high school library took the first place
(national phase, 1988).
In our high school, was developed a rich scientific and methodical research
activity, some of the teachers being book and manual writers, publishing at
publishing houses or at magazines of speciality. So, teacher Rosca Dumitru
brought his contribution to the improvement of Maths teaching by the effectuation
of some school experiments at the primary grades (I-IV), by the introduction
and practical cheking of some western teaching methods. He was decorated with
orders and medals. He received the title of “Excellent teacher” in
1970 and the order “Cultural Merit”. He write and published “Matematici
moderne în sprijinul învatatorilor” E.D.P. Bucharest, 1978, “Matematica”,

In 1989, the year of the Revolution, the high school had 28 classes, with 997
students taking daily courses, 6 classes with 208 students taking evening courses,
5 classes with 1st year vocational school students and 8 classes with 2nd year
vocational school students. All of these 1619 students had the possibility
to study in 7 laboratories and 6 workshops. 80 professors worked for this high
school: teachers, engineers and foremen with valuable knowledge proved by Ist
and IInd degree exams.
THE WAY FROM THE INDUSTRIAL HIGH SCHOOL TO THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY HIGH SCHOOL
In 1990, as a result of the initiative of the head masters
Rosu Elena and Mangâr Puiu, The Industrial High school No. 1 of Piatra-Neamt
became The Informatics High school of Piatra-Neamt.
Founded because of the permissive conditions after the Revolution, this modern
high school had, during 1990 and 1991, 6 classes for 9th graders, with informatics
profile, followed No. 1 continued in parallel, in 21 classes with 697 ten to
twelve graders. There were also 7 classes with 197 students taking evening
courses, a post-high school electrotechnics class and 4 classes of vocational
school, with 116 students.
So, it was a complex and dynamic school institution, which comprehended the
requests of the ‘90s, using its informatics laboratories, rearranging
its staff and giving to students a new channel on the job market.
The new orientation of the high school attracted, since the beginnings, a great
number of applicants for this high school, the only one of the kind in the
Neamt county.
Because of the high interest shown by students and parents for this particular
high school, the grades of the applicant didn’t fall under 758, during
the entire period in which the admittance in 9th grade was made by a national
exam.
By the efforts of the headmaster Rosu Elena, two informatics laboratories were
properly furnished in the summer of 1990. As a result, since 1990, the 9th
graders who studied informatics could use in lab classes 40 CIP01 computing
systems and 7 286 computers.
The following years were permanently marked by the great number of initiatives
of teachers for a good activity, in order to increase the high school’s
prestige.
In 1993-1994, the headmasters Dumitru Ene and Bordei Carmen purchase or three
386 computers and they signed in for the “Computers for High school” program,
initiated by the Söros Foundation. This program brought 19 486 computers,
a laser printer and a Minolta Xerox machine.
In the year 2000, the I. T. High School in Piatra-Neamt was connected to the
National Ministry of Education via INTERNET. Our modern Multimedia Laboratory
was inaugurated in the same year.
As a result of our high school headmaster’s interest in improving the
activity in our computer labs, there have been acquired 83 computers for the
labs and 3 computers for the secretariat and book-keeping jobs in the school
year 2003-2004.
The labs benefit from 6 computer networks using the AEL platform installed
and functioning. For an efficient activity there have been brought 7 printers
and 2 scanners.
Since 2000 the I. T. High School has hosted the Center for computer allocation
spreading secondary school pupils according to their results, all over the
county.
The efforts made by the leadership of our high school have been supported by
the whole didactic staff.
When setting up, our high school had an exceptional didactic staff made up
of only teachers in ordinary, over 90% having the 1st degree.
Beginning with 1990-1991 and for the following 3 years Informatics teachers
joined the collectivity being young graduates of the faculty with I.T. profile
eager to assert themselves.
The number of the students who participated into olympiads and other contests
has increased since 1990-1991 and the results have improved either. Very good
results have been achieved in the local and national contests, in the I.T.
field such as: “Info Baby” organised at the I.T. High School in
Iasi (1991, 1992), ELSACO Botosani, “Anghel Rugina” in Vaslui, “Unirea” in
Focsani, “Urmasii lui Moisil” in Iasi in which all our students
have been awarded every year.
During the same period our students have taken part in the Mathematics contests
such as: “Memorial St. Dirtu” in Vatra Dornei, “Memorial
C. Cojocaru” in Roman, “Memorial M. Costeniuc” in P.Neamt
and in the international contest “Gh. Titeica” in Craiova and “Radu
Miron” in Vaslui.
Some of the students attracted by studying the Romanian language and literature
have taken part in contests such as “Tinere condeie”, “Excelsior” and
they have written articles for the local press as well as for the magazines
of our high school: “Liceum” coordinated by the Romanian language
teacher R. Zaharescu and “Dialog” coordinated by the Romanian language
teacher C. Diaconu, the latter being awarded in the school magazine competition
in 2001.
Students who are fond of Psysics have achieved great results in the inter-county
contest “St. Procopiu” in Iasi getting prizes or mentions or solving
many exercises and making interesting suggestions published in the Physics
magazine “Evrika”.
Chemistry is another favourite subject for many of our students as they took
part in the contest “D. Nenitescu” in Bucharest in 1995 and they
were awarded the 1st nad 2nd prize.
Loving Informatics, our students have participated in many scientific sessions
in which have always been awarded. Such events are to be mentioned: the International
Scientific Conference in Information Technology and scientific Economics, in
Chisinau. In which both E. Costrachievici / Informatics teacher and Olaru V.
student were awarded.
Other prizes have been received by our students in contests such as: the inter-county “Infoeducatia” in
Focsani; a contest for projects and paper works in Timisoara; the inter-county
project contest organized by C.S.C. Piatra-Neamt; in the scientific session “Lumina
si Cunoastere” in Durau.
The team of our High school the 2nd prize in the programming contest organized
by PROTV in summer 1997.
The International Maths Contest “Kangourou” has gathered many students
of our High school among which: Manolache L. and Farcasanu B. who got the 1st
prize at national level in 1995 and 1996.
Beginning with 1990 the percent of the graduates has above 90 and in the past
6 years has reached 100.
Since students are admitted in high schools according to computer allocation
the admittance average mark at our high schools hasn’t been bellow 8,62.
And the percentage of our graduates admitted in universities has gone up a
lot after 1990, reaching about 94% at present.
Most part of our graduates choose to take exams at different faculties, such
as: Information Technology, Automatization and Computers, Economics, Medicine,
Laws, Philology.
More graduates have got their Mater’s Degree in different countries in
Western Europe, such as: France, England, Germany, Italy, or their Doctor’s
Degree at creditable universities in Europe or the U.S.A.
Most of the former students awarded at the National Olimpiada of Information
Technology are, now, employees at MICROSOFT (U.S.A.).
Caloianu Ciprian, a former student of our High School, who was awarded 1st
or 2nd prize in the contest mentioned above during the school years 1995-1996,
1996-1997, 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 has attended courses at the University of
Arkansas-City in the U.S.A. since 1999, being the representative of the U.S.A.
in the International Olimpiada of Computer Science and during 1999-2000 he
was declared “The best student of the year” at the same university.
Initiative and Competition are two features which characterize our High School.
The activities organized with the students in our High School have meant to
create a communication bridge between the young generation and financial or
banking institutions.
On this purpose teacher Daniela Neamtu has organized a session of scientifique
communication entitled “Monetary Issues” in which students from
all the High School in our county presented their works.
Students of our High School got two 1st prizes and a 2nd prize in the contest
organized by Danilov Jaroslav, teacher of Informatics; the contest entitled “Market – Sim – Simulating
the capital market” is unique in our country and was sponsored by the
Mobiliary Values Society ROMAXA. The competition aimed at familiarization of
the students with the mechanism of the capital market.
Since its setting up, in 1990, the Information Technology High School in Piatra-Neamt
has Kept its unique profile – intensive Informatics – with a number
of 25 high school forms and 4 secondary school forms and 69 teachers who have
carried out their activity in 29 classrooms, 6 informatics laboratory.
There is a very valuable library of the High School which hosts and displays
books and magazines belonging to different areas such as informatics, literature,
arts and other subjects.
Most part of the veteran teachers handed in their “mission” to
the passion and professionalism since they came in our High School. This fact
has been materialized in the good and very good results achieved by their students
in competitions and contest as well as in the great number of teachers in ordinary,
teachers with the 1st and 2nd degree, teacher trainers, coordinators of published
works etc., as it follones: Irimia E. Genoveva (Mathematics), Rosu E. (Mathematics),
Meicu O. (Mathematics); Borcea L. (Mathematics), Gavril St. (Mathematics), Ganu
A. (Physics), Guzgan
T. (Chemistry), Selaru G. (French), Jilavu A. (English), Preisler O. (Geography),
Manolache Gh. (Informatics), Andone E. (Informatics), Ene D. (Informatics),
Ungureanu F. (Informatics), Blaga G. (Informatics), Diaconu V. (Informatics),
Costrachievici E. (Informatics), Nour G. (Informatics), Lacatusu A. (History),
Neamtu D. (Humanistic Sciences), Musat T. (Physical Education), many of being
special payed for their merits.
A vast and sustained activity has been carried out within all the curricular
areas such as: Mathematics, Romanian language, Physics, History, Geography,
Biology, Foreign languages, Informatics, motivated by the publishing of two
magazines “Dialog” (which was awarded the 2nd prize in the school
year 2002-2003) and “Liceum”.
The magazine “Recreatia Verde” has been published since December
1997 and edited by the members of the debating circle called “Info-natura” under
the guidance of the teacher Fronea Mariana.
Many teachers write articles and propose exercises for different magazines,
various school contests and Olimpic contests; they also collaborate to publish
various collections of exercises. They are Gavril Stefan, Neta Ciprian, Meicu
Otilia, Rosu Elena, Ganu Aurica, who have published in the magazine: “Apostolul”, “Dialoguri
matematice nemtene”, “Evrika” and also. Irimia Elena Genoveva
and Gavril Stefan are the authors of some exercise collections and methodic
publications.
The debating group of journalism was set up at the beginning of the school
year 2002-2003 and it is coordinated by professors Selaru Georgeta and Zaharescu
Carmen. Its members edit a magazine called “Infopuls” which is
very appreciated by the students. Some of the members participated in the National
Camp of Jurnalism which took place in July 2003, in Ciric, Iasi. All the participating
students were awarded with diplomas and prizes. The French teacher Georgeta
Selaru, who accompanied the students to the Camp, was awarded a diploma of
honor.
Our high School was awarded a diploma for participating in the debate regarding
the future of Europe (Spring Day Projects) which took place in March 2002,
diploma signed by impressive names: Patrick Cox, the president of the European
Parliament, Valery Giscard D’Estaing, president of the European Commission
and Costas Simitis, president of the Council of European Union. The coordinator
of this project is Georgeta Selaru, French teacher.
In 2003 the Math’s teacher Glodeanu Elena was awarded a diploma and a
plate with the distinction “For meritorious activity” by ISJ Neamt,
for her remarkable activity and merits. The Math’s teacher Borcea laurentiu,
was also given a distinction by ISJ Neamt for meritorious results as a headmaster
of the Information Technology High School.
The History teachers Ana Lacatusu and Elena Asandei prepared the high school
team for the contest “Inteligence and creativity in the history of Romanian
people”, where they were awarded the 1st prize.
For the moment, there are 69 persons from the teaching personnel who carry
out their activity in this high school: 46 are teachers in ordinary, 5 detached
teachers who have the first degree, 10 with the second degree, 18 of them have
the tenure and 14 are beginners. The auxiliary personnel are: 2 secretaries,
1 librarian, 2 laboratory assistants, 1 system engineer, 1 informatician, 3
technicians and among non didactic personnel there are: 3 accountants, 1 administrator
and 19 workers.
Beginning with the school year 2003-2004, the new leadership of the high school
represented by our younger colleague, professor doctor in philosophy Daniela
Neamtu – headmaster and Gheorghe Manolache – deputy head, proposed
some goals and aims that are to be accomplished in the following period.
From a conceptual point of view the school leader board is promoting didactic
principles such as: a positive motivation for study, a growth in the interest
of keeping up with the educational process, linking education with the practical
aspects of life, promoting new modern methods of study adapted also to the
quality of human and material resources.
From a strategic and tactical point of view we follow to ensure a good management,
the increasing of efficiency of methodic activities, a stronger collaboration
with parents, sponsors and representatives of the local community in order
to resolve school’s problems.
From the point of view of the material and financial resources, the school
functions with training spaces such as: 3 buildings with classrooms, laboratories,
offices, informatics laboratories with an internet connection, 1 hostel building,
1 canteen and a gymnasium.
The fitting out of a modern multimedia laboratory was
a real success and another one is being built now.
In this laboratory the teachers of informatics from the high school have held
training courses with the headmasters from the county, secretaries and accountants
of these schools.
Also, in the past years, many classrooms have been equipped with new furniture,
thanks to the contribution of parents. For the future we hope to replace some
windows, too.
Social and professional counseling and orientation, in organizing festivities
(High School Days, Freshmen Ball, Graduation Banquet, organizing scientific
sessions) attracting physical and juridical persons, who by financial contributions,
have supported the upgrading of the educational activities and of the material
resources.
Another viable organism in the high school is the Advisory Assembly of Pupils
that debates once a month the stringent problems of students, thus becoming
a bridge between the pupil’s group and the school board, ensuring the
