THE BILATERAL PROJECT "PROMOTING A CORNER OF EUROPE"
National College of Informatics Piatra-Neamt, Romania <-> Vši Kauno Technologijos Universiteto Gimnazija
Kaunas, Lituania
Between the 22nd and 30th of May 2010 the National College of Informatics hosted the second mobility in the Comenius Bilateral Project called "Promoting a corner of Europe" developed by the National College of Informatics in Piatra Neamt and VDA KAUNO TECHNOLOGIJOS UNIVERSITETO GIMNAZIJA, KAUNAS, LITUANIA. This is a two years project and the aim is to develop communication skills in foreign languages in the context of European diversity using the IT.
On May 22nd 2010, 25 students from Lithuania and four teachers: Daiva- Deputy Director, Jurate-English teacher, Astrid- Russian Teacher and Diana French teacher arrived in Piatra Neamt.
The visit began with a short introduction of the mysteries and beautiful places of this city. At first overwhelmed by all the differences starting with the landscape- the mountain a masterpiece of mother nature which later proved to be the biggest challenge for our partners, architectural differences - The Princely Court, Stephen's tower, the Youth Theatre, The History Museum, The Train Station and all the beautiful churches, climate differences and last but not least the life style and mentality of every nation.
We wanted to create a real bond between our nations, a true friendship and what better way to do all these than to visit the beautiful landscape of the Neamt County, to get to know the culture and history of the area, to admire the monasteries: Bistrita, Neamt, Varatic, Agapia, the Museum of Traditional Arts in Tarpesti, the Red Lake, Cheile Bicazului, and the mountain Ceahlau.
Monday, May 24th 2010, offered us the opportunity to get to know each other better because the first language course was held and students from both countries were present. On this occasion we did a SWOT analysis of the project's site (http://cni.nt.edu.ro/lituania), we decided on the working arrangements and we revised all the suggestions of the two teachers Roma Vaitiekaitiene and Violeta Zidonyte who were in Piatra Neamt between the 3-10th of May 2010.
We stated working on the Visual Dictionary RO-EN-LT using different strategies:
– live conference meeting with a school in Lithuania, with the help of Microsoft programmes;
– team work- pairing the translations of the words with the appropriate images, using the computer and drawings; the main topics were tourism, sports and people.
Language courses were held throughout the entire period, the Romanian and Lithuanian teachers worked together using different strategies form discussions on certain subjects to dynamic games.
The photography exhibition" Romanian-Lithuanian interferences" wants to promote the customs and traditions of the two countries, and to encourage our talented students.
We also had athletic challenges a football match and a basketball match where students had the opportunity to show their skills. There were no winners or losers, just a fair play game where students had a lot of fun.
The students and the teachers (CNI director, Mrs. Genoveva Elena Irimia, CNI Director Mr. Vasile Diaconu, Alina Jilavu teacher, Maria Berea teacher, Diana Bejan teacher, Carmen Zaharescu teacher, Nicu Luca teacher, engineer Ovidiu Nechita, and engineer Daniel Dorobantu) of the CNI are looking forward to the next visit of the project in Kaunas, Lithuania.

JOURNAL - LEONARDO DA VINCI PROJECT "IT GRAPHICS FOR A BETTER INCLUSION ON THE EUROPEAN MARKET LABOUR"; NO LLP-LDV/IVT/2009/175
First day: April 23, 2010
After a quiet four hours flight, we arrived in Madrid-Barajas Airport, where we were welcomed by the three drivers who took us to the Cordoba Academy campus.
We were greeted by the Cordoba Academy staff and we settled in.
At 9.00 we had a perfect breakfast.
At 13.30 we attended the meeting in which the manager of the C.A., señor Pedro, presented the draft of the programme and answered some of our questions.
At 14.00 we had a delicious lunch, after which, accompanied by the cultural coordinator Andreas, we toured the city and visited: Mezquita Mosque, the Youth and Culture House, the centre of the town, the Tourist Information Centre (where we all received a city map) and the Roman Bridge.
After we had dinner (20.00) we visited the neighbourhood (Hebrew neighbourhood), and at 22.00 we went back because we had to prepare for the second day of the project in Spain.
Second day: April 24, 2010
After we had breakfast at 8:00, Laura another cultural coordinator took us to see the impressive interior of the Mezquita mosque, which was turned into a Catholic cathedral, and still preserved both the Gothic and Muslim architectural elements.
The boys played a basketball game.
During the day, we had access to the computer room of the Cordoba Academy, where I could contact my family via the Internet.
At 17.30 we had a meeting with the mentors, where we shared impressions of the day, and we started a diary page.
Third day: April 25, 2010
On the third day the schedule was more flexible .After breakfast most of us attended the Catholic service officiated in the Mezquita mosque, after which we split into small groups to visit various objectives in the city, including: the Museum of Fine Arts, the City Stadium, Castle Almodova Puerta, Victoria Garden (Festival Batalla de las Flores), Plaza de las Tendillas.
At around 20.30, after dinner, we had a meeting with the mentors, where we shared impressions of the day and we discussed the program for the next day the first day of training.
Fourth day: April 26, 2010
We can say that this day was different from the first three because we were assigned to different companies and we started the Spanish classes.
During the meeting (after breakfast) we were selected by the firms. Although some of us got to visit the firms before lunch and some after lunch, we were all impressed by the way we were welcomed.
Also, the first Spanish lesson was interesting, we had to communicate in Spanish, the presentation was interactive and our teacher was very dynamic and communicative.
At around 22.00 we had the meet with the mentors, and we completed the first log file in the Individual Portfolio, and this is how we ended the fourth day in Spain.
"The most beautiful part of Cordoba is the centre - Plaza Tendillas. There is the company where I will work. It will be a pleasure to walk around and admire the true beauty of the city."(SIMONA MARCULET)
"Today was first day we started working in the companies. Great people, great places!"
"A beautiful city
A fragrant flower
Spring is here. " (VLAD SIRITANU)
"I liked the enthusiasm and joy of everyone. It was nice. The firm was great and the guy who was teaching us was incredibly calm and enthusiastic. I am sure that if we want to learn more here we have the perfect opportunity and we can finish our work experience in a positive way. "(ANCA NEAGU)
"Cordoba is one of the most beautiful cities. The company is big and has a lot of demands. The Spanish classes are great. The accommodation is very nice and the food is delicious."(ROMAN VLAD)
"Today after a good night sleep I am anxious to go to the company, but I don’t know how it will be ...
I met the teacher in charge I am really glad and I can’t wait to go again tomorrow." (Matthew Chiorescu)
"The first day was tiring. We were divided into groups, and then we had to meet everyone and that took a lot of energy. But eventually, all the choices we made about the companies proved to be right. (CRISTINA Ioan).
FOR NATURE AND NATURE FOR ALL - ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT
The environmental project "Every man has to plant a tree", this was the name of the activity of Friday, May 22nd , 2009 "The International Day of Biological Diversity" presented by the students of the National College of Informatics. The students seeded different species of shrubs and perennials. The main goal of the activity was to create a mini park in the schoolyard.
The activity was initiated by the 9th B, coordinated by Mrs. Alina Sauciuc, for the project ALL FOR NATURE AND NATURE FOR ALL, which is part of a national project called "Be a leader". The main objectives of this initiative: to prevent future environmental problems- because if people start doing small things we can change the world and we want to attract as many volunteers as possible among our high school students.
The project's target group consists of students and teachers of the National College of Informatics Partners in the project: the students of the National College of Informatics and the main sponsor "Giorgia".
Through this project we want to demonstrate that we are not only interested in mathematics and computer sciences, but we would like to make a change for the community and the environment.
LET'S DO IT, ROMANIA!
"Let's Do It!" is actually a group of people who are ready for action - to make real changes in our regions, our countries, our world, in ourselves .This programme is part of an international movement - "Letts Do It, World" - which started in Estonia in 2008 and has been used also in Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovenia and Romania. So far Slovenia is the country which has managed to employ the greatest number of citizens in this environmental programme. Over 270,000 people worked together to create a cleaner and healthier environment.
The main objective of the project is also explained in the motto: "Clean across the country. In a single day!", This project wants to clean the garbage piles from the natural areas of the country, in a single day, the garbage identified and cleaned during this campaign is the dirt thrown away in the natural areas by citizens (either local or tourists). The project does not involve cleaning inside the city.
The project was initiated in Bucharest in September 2009 by a group of about 30 young people representing local NGOs but also by individuals. As long term objectives, the project wants to make the citizens become more responsible concerning the environment and to collaborate with the authorities for the development of the infrastructure and of the fine system.
Let's Do It, Romania! is not only an environmental project, but the biggest project of social involvement in the country. In the Neamt County, the project started in Piatra Neamt, Roman, Tirgu Neamt, Bicaz and Roznov, and in some rural areas. We were not alone in this project and our local partners were: the Neamt Prefect’s Office, the County Council, Environmental Protection Agency, the School Inspectorate, the National Administration of the "Romanian Waters", the Romanian Gendarmerie and the National Environmental Guard.
In the Neamt county more than 2200 volunteers participated and they managed to collect 4450 bags of waste. The people from the Romanian Gendarmerie cleaned the area Valeni-Durau and the bank of the river Bistrita, in Vaduri.
In Piatra Neamt, the cleaned areas were: Borzogheanu and the right bank of the river Bistrita, to Valeni. Both routes were coordinated by teams from the Water Management System in Neamt, and volunteers from partner school – the National College of Informatics, the National College "Petru Rares", the National College "Calistrat Hogas", the Transportation Technical College, and the Technical College.
From the National College of Informatics we had a total of 150 students guided by 12 teachers, who were divided into groups and sent to different areas to offer their help with the cleaning. The areas covered were Valeni and Strandul Tineretului.
"Although it was difficult, we managed to demonstrate that if we work together we can create a cleaner and healthier environment" -Catalin Tamas 7 B.
We would like to thank the National Administration of the "Romanian Waters" Neamt for all the help.

THE LOCAL YOUTH COUNCIL CREATES TRADITIONS: CHARITABLE PROJECT "A HOPE FOR EVERYONE" - SECOND EDITION.
Continuing the collaboration with the Centre for Children with Disabilities"Sancta Maria" for the third consecutive year, The Local Youth Council in Piatra Neamt announces a new period for the voluntary service, between November 2007 - May 2008.
Last year The Local Youth Council in Piatra Neamt offered five high school students the opportunity to benefit from a series of theoretical lectures about the recovery programmes for children with disabilities. This year the project continues, with a conceptual transformation. Thus, young volunteers will work exclusively with children in the centre doing workshops, supervised by specialized teachers, thereby contributing to the recovery process of the children. The workshops will include activities like painting and sculpture and the results will be materialized in three exhibitions: one for Christmas, Easter and one for Children’s Day.
The tradition established in the past two years will also continue with a donation consisting of toys and money for the children of the centre. Gifts will be offered on Christmas Eve by teams of volunteers dressed as Santa Claus.
For the students of the National College of Informatics this has been the dearest project. It has been a real pleasure to develop, to implement and then to evaluate it. We were really pleased with our volunteers (who came in large numbers), we enjoyed the time we spent at the centre with the little ones, the volunteers were awarded in May and we are really anxious to restart the project in the fall.

READING MESSENGERS - THE NATIONAL COLLEGE OF INFORMATICS- STUDENTS IN GRADES 5-8
The students of the National College of Informatics, grades 5-8th developed a partnership called the Reading Messengers with the kindergarten no.2 in Piatra Neamt. On the 7th of May 2010 our students went to the kindergarten to present the two volumes of the book "The world seen through the eyes of children".
Although nervous at first, after a while a fairytale atmosphere settled in when the students gave life to the characters in their books: the dwarves, the elf and the egg. They all sang, danced and drew even the adults that were present there (the two kindergarten teachers Iuliana Irimia si Lacramioara Corfu, Mrs.Genoveva Elena Irimia the director of the CNI and Carmen Zaharescu teacher).
A special moment was created by the two teachers from Lithuania, Rome Vaitiekaitiene, English teacher and Violeta Zidonyte, Arts teacher, who made some interesting drawings and taught the children words in Lithuanian. Everyone was so excited, and eager to repeat this experience as soon as possible.
